Stucco Repair in North and South Carolina

Don’t let torn-up or faded stucco ruin what could have been a great first impression. Whether it’s visitors or customers, you want to keep your exterior looking perfect. When stucco is filled with cracks or imperfections everyone can see it.Stucco repair is a common maintenance request for home and business owners. Many painters will just paint over imperfections in your existing stucco instead of repairing them, leaving your stucco looking worn.

Why Does Stucco Need to be Repaired?

The Carolinas are filled with exteriors made out of stucco. Stucco is made of cement, lime, water and salt and can offer benefits that regular siding can’t. It can handle different weather conditions, is resistant to fire, provides an additional layer of insulation and more.

There are also some downsides to stucco. It often fades and accumulates dirt and dust. It is also known to crack when foundations settle. Many times, imperfections are bound to occur in your stucco at some point. To keep your home or business looking great, they will need to be repaired.

Repair Stucco with Rhino Shield

Often, stucco repair is needed when some intense weather may have damaged an exterior or cracks occur as a home settles. When this happens, many times stucco contractors just paint right over the problem. Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem, cracks are still noticeable and can even let in moisture.

At Rhino Shield, we repair stucco the right way. Our stucco repair service begins with an initial inspection that will reveal cracks, loose material or imperfections in your existing stucco. Once the inspection is complete, we remove loose material, apply a stucco patch where needed and then begin our stucco repair process. We build up multiple layers and seal them with our innovative stucco seal.

Once your stucco is repaired, the best way to protect it and make it look great is with our Rhino Shield coating. Our coating can help prevent cracks from happening again. This coating will protect your home while making sure it looks great.

Rhino Shield uses ceramic microspheres instead of fillers in a 100% acrylic waterborne formula that creates a waterproof, soundproof, insulating barrier over your Carolina stucco.

It is important that your home or business looks great for a long time, not just a few years at a time. Rhino Shield makes sure that your stucco is perfectly ready for our coating. Imagine not having to deal with house painting again for 25 years!

Repair Stucco DIY

Proper stucco repair always starts with preparation. Any loose material needs to be removed so the repair can bond to solid existing stucco. Cracked or hollow areas are chipped out until the damaged section is gone and the metal mesh underneath is exposed. If that mesh is rusted or bent, it should be cut away and replaced so the new stucco has a strong base.

Once the damaged area is opened up, the stucco mix is prepared according to the manufacturer’s directions. The right ratio of cement, sand and water helps the stucco patch cure evenly and reduces the chance of future cracking. Since stucco can dry out quickly, the mix should be applied soon after it is prepared instead of sitting in the bucket.

The new stucco is then applied in multiple layers so it can cure correctly. The first layer is pushed firmly into the mesh to create a solid bond, followed by one or two more coats that gradually build the surface back to the level of the surrounding wall. Each coat is allowed to firm up before the next one goes on, which helps prevent sagging and future separation.

The final step is to match the texture of the existing stucco so the repair blends in. While the last layer is still workable, the contractor uses brushes, trowels or specialty tools to copy the original pattern. Once it cures, the repaired area can be primed and coated so the color and finish match the rest of the exterior, leaving the stucco looking clean and consistent.
